Julius Koppel

Julius Koppel is an accordion player from Pärnu, who’s musical background has been formed by classical, jazz, folk and popular music. While studying in music school it was always important to him to play also in traditional dance clubs that showed music from different, more free light as it appeared from relatively conservative studies in school. While playing in different events and parties it was common to Julius also to teach a couple of folk dances himself.
This time in Sabatants the emphasis will be put to playing dance music from Kihnu. One reason for that is that in saturday the professionals – Kihnu people themselves – will teach Kihnu dances in workshop but on the other hand – Julius has been connected to Kihnu island and culture for years, playing for their parties, playing accordion for Kihnu Virve band and also teaching playing music in their summer music camps.
